"Johny" is a personal look at the trials and tribulations of Queer black athlete and business owner Johny dyer as he navigates an ever changing modern world, all the while discovering how to love himself every day.
Partially completed filming
Filming started in 2018 with the goal of capturing Johny's CrossFit journey to the can west games. With an intimate lens, we are taken into the quiet moments of Johny's life. It is here that we find a story of strength, resilience, and most beautifully - joy.
The world has changed drastically for everyone since filming began. The twists and turns have taken us all by storm.
what can we learn from "JohnY" in a time like this?
Shot on the Canon C200, this documentary has a naturalistic style that bleeds intimacy and detail. As many of the locations were active athletic events, the small, run-and-gun rig was the perfect tool for remaining incognito while staying with the action.
With a minimal camera crew, consisting primarily of filmmaker Connor Lang, the production remained simple with its sole focus set tightly on its subject - Johny. Post-production will be a team of industry professionals who can provide an astounding polish.
Shot in Beautiful British Columbia, featuring Vancouver, Abbotsford, Whistler, and a handful of other cities in the Lower Mainland, "Johny" is a local production. Percy Perry Stadium made an appearance amidst 30 degree summer heat for the Can West Games.
